More of the Promise
Genesis 25: Abraham again took a wife, and her name was Keturah. 2 And she
bore him Zimran, Jokshan, Medan, Midian, Ishbak, and Shuah. 3 Jokshan
begot Sheba and Dedan. And the sons of Dedan were Asshurim, Letushim, and
Leummim. 4 And the sons of Midian were Ephah,
Epher, Hanoch, Abidah, and Eldaah. All these were the children
of Keturah.
5 And Abraham gave all that he
had to Isaac. 6 But Abraham gave gifts to the sons
of the concubines which Abraham had; and while he was still living he sent
them eastward, away from Isaac his son, to the country of the east.
============
Abraham seemed to take GOD’s promise seriously. He married
Keturah who bore him six sons. Prominent names came from this marriage, some of
which would cause problems centuries later. Abraham also had children through
concubines.
My Observations:
- Abraham kept having
children after Sarah died.
- Abraham had a promised
child named Isaac, but also fathered many nations outside of the one JESUS
would come through.
- There was possibly some
strife going on in Abraham’s family so he sent those born of concubines
away from Isaac.
GOD promised Abraham that he would have more children than
he could ever count. This seemed to be true even when he was living! He had
kids that would start nations Some would follow GOD and some would not.
While Abraham had fulfilled “the promise” GOD mentioned, he
also remembered that he would be the father of many nations. Keturah may have
been a Philistine. The Bible does not say where she came from, but that’s where
Abraham settled. The concubines may have also been Philistines. The belief in
GOD may have been mixed.
Challenge
- Why did GOD tell Moses
about Abraham’s other children?
- After GOD fulfills a
promise HE made to you, have you ever wondered what’s next?
- Is your purpose in GOD
still solid in your heart?
