Provide a Warning

Provide a Warning

Acts 27: Much time had been lost, and sailing had already become dangerous because by now it was after the Day of Atonement.  So Paul warned them, 10 “Men, I can see that our voyage is going to be disastrous and bring great loss to ship and cargo, and to our own lives also.” 11 But the centurion, instead of listening to what Paul said, followed the advice of the pilot and of the owner of the ship. 12 Since the harbor was unsuitable to winter in, the majority decided that we should sail on, hoping to reach Phoenix and winter there. This was a harbor in Crete, facing both southwest and northwest.

============

Hearing the guy make jokes in a serious meeting, I cringed for his career. I mean, this meeting was with the senior executives of the company and he insisted on telling his joke. When another meeting was scheduled, I thought to myself, “I should warn him.” I did not follow my heart and remained silent. He joked again and got fired.

  • There are actions of others that I used to think were out of my control.
  • There are actions of others that I used to feel “It’s their fault if they hurt themselves.”
  • There are actions of others that I saw coming, yet I did not provide them with a warning.

Paul saw the dire situation they were in and tried to warn everyone of the danger. It was already after the Day of Atonement, meaning it was fall and winter travel would be even more treacherous. The centurion heard the warning but did not listen. Paul had done what he was supposed to do.

  • When GOD tells me to warn someone, I have to listen.
  • When GOD warns me of something that is against HIS will I have to warn others.
  • When GOD places a caution sign on the path of someone, HE wants me to heed the warning and make HIS point as clear as possible.

Letting someone fail is sometimes a good tactic. I mean, tough love provides hard lessons. But sometimes GOD steps in and wants me to provide a warning. Over and over GOD has warned me and the times I did not listen were difficult. But when I listened to GOD’s warnings, I bared fruit.

When GOD says “Warn that person”, HE is trying to do a marvelous work. Warnings from GOD are not born from fear, rather HIS sovereignty. GOD said “But if you do warn the wicked person and they do not turn from their wickedness or from their evil ways, they will die for their sin; but you will have saved yourself.” I am glad HE send people to warn me.

  • Has GOD opened your eyes to something?
  • Do you see something wrong, but were going to remain silent?
  • Will you open your mouth and provide HIS warning today?

Adversity

Adversity

Acts 27: From there we put out to sea again and passed to the lee of Cyprus because the winds were against us. When we had sailed across the open sea off the coast of Cilicia and Pamphylia, we landed at Myra in Lycia. There the centurion found an Alexandrian ship sailing for Italy and put us on board. We made slow headway for many days and had difficulty arriving off Cnidus. When the wind did not allow us to hold our course, we sailed to the lee of Crete, opposite Salmone. We moved along the coast with difficulty and came to a place called Fair Havens, near the town of Lasea.

============

After waking up, I noticed it was brighter than usual. I looked outside and to my dread, it was snowing very hard. I quickly cleaned up, collected my things and plodded through the snow in hopes of catching the early bus. The snow was so deep that it hindered my effort.

I missed the bus so I walked a mile to the next bus only to have that one pull off without me. After many delays, I finally arrived at school after two hours, only to be told all schools were closed due to the blizzard. It took longer to get back home.

  • There have been many times when it seemed like everything was against me.
  • There have been many times when the journey seemed treacherous and difficult.
  • There have been many times when I arrived at the destination only to find yet another barrier.

Doctor Luke is the assumed writer of the book of Acts. He continues his observations as he writes to Theophilus  again. Luke wrote about the adversity they faced as he, Paul and others tried to get to Rome. The winds were against them every step of the way. They continued anyway.

  • GOD wants me to know there will be problems in life.
  • GOD wants me to know I will face difficult times.
  • GOD wants me to know HE is with me even when I feel HE is not.

When difficult times arise, I sometimes ask “Why?” I mean as a believer in JESUS, shouldn’t every day be easy and problem free? It seems like the more I believe in JESUS, the more difficult life becomes. GOD assures me I am on the right path.

JESUS faced adversity and said I would too. HE said “You will be hated by all for MY name's sake. But the one who endures to the end will be saved.” JESUS faced hatred, lies and being misunderstood. HE continued anyway. I am grateful JESUS faced adversity for me.

  • Is life difficult for you?
  • Are you facing adversity and it does not seem to end?
  • Will you believe GOD is with you even when you cannot see what HE is doing today?

Kindness

Kindness

Acts 27: When it was decided that we would sail for Italy, Paul and some other prisoners were handed over to a centurion named Julius, who belonged to the Imperial Regiment. We boarded a ship from Adramyttium about to sail for ports along the coast of the province of Asia, and we put out to sea. Aristarchus, a Macedonian from Thessalonica, was with us.

The next day we landed at Sidon; and Julius, in kindness to Paul, allowed him to go to his friends so they might provide for his needs.

============

Planning my day, I thought of all that I had to do. As I crept towards the toll booth, I could see the building where I worked. This let me know I had to be ready. When I got to the window to pay, the attendant said, “You can go. The driver ahead of you paid your toll.” I stopped thinking about work for a moment and was thankful.

  • I have experienced many kind acts.
  • I have experienced times when people have done kind things, just for me.
  • I have experienced kindness and it made me thankful.

Paul and the other prisoners were being transported to Rome. Paul had appealed to Caesar for his defense, but had done no wrong. Many people knew Paul was innocent. Julius, a centurion, decided to do something. He decided to be kind to Paul.

  • GOD wants me to be kind to people.
  • GOD wants me to use kindness to bear fruit.
  • GOD wants me to remember to be kind to people so my heart will be filled.

Empty distracted hearts easily forget to be kind. I mean, the distractions of the world can lead to hurt and pain. BUT GOD steps in and sends HIS servants to be kind in the middle of a doom-filled situation. From giving me a ride to simply smiling at me, many people have been kind.

Acts of kindness from others prompts me to be kind to someone that day. But when I am flustered and it seems like a lot of problems are rushing at me, I can use kindness as a weapon. I may only have the strength to smile at people, but it makes the problem smaller and smaller. I am glad people have used the fruit of the Spirit by being kind to me.

  • Have people been kind to you?
  • Are you easily provoked to anger, jealousy and rage?
  • Will you trade in your hurt for kindness, so you act can be remembered by GOD today?

Influential

Influential

Acts 26: 30 The king rose, and with him the governor and Bernice and those sitting with them. 31 After they left the room, they began saying to one another, “This man is not doing anything that deserves death or imprisonment.”

32 Agrippa said to Festus, “This man could have been set free if he had not appealed to Caesar.”

============

Wanting to be more like this leader, I met his family. The wife was very poised and graceful and the kids were too. “How in the world did they get that way?” I asked myself. They were very influential.

  • I have met some very influential people.
  • I have met some people I wanted to be like.
  • I have met some people who seemed to be connected to everyone in an influential way.

King Agrippa heard Paul’s final defense. He, the governor and Bernice discussed the situation and could not find anything wrong with what Paul was doing. Bernice is mentioned a lot. Her prominence must have come from her influential style. Paul appealed to Caesar, avoiding the influences of those trying to kill him.

  • GOD wants me to be influential for HIM.
  • GOD wants me to be persuasive for HIM.
  • GOD wants me to be a life changer for HIM.

Influencing people happens whether I like it or not. I mean, I will influence people with what is in my heart. If my heart is greedy, I will always speak about money. If I lust for power, I will somehow work respect or taking over into the conversation. BUT GOD wants something different.

GOD wants me to have HIS love in my heart so I can persuade people to follow HIS SON. People make mistakes. I make a lot of them. HE wants me to overlook the mistakes and present the true solution. JESUS. I am grateful for the influencers HE sent to me.

  • What are you trying to persuade people to do?
  • Who has influenced you to be where you are?
  • Will you stop following human influences and allow JESUS to guide you through the HOLY SPIRIT today?

Make Time

Make Time

Acts 26: 24 At this point Festus interrupted Paul’s defense. “You are out of your mind, Paul!” he shouted. “Your great learning is driving you insane.”

25 “I am not insane, most excellent Festus,” Paul replied. “What I am saying is true and reasonable. 26 The king is familiar with these things, and I can speak freely to him. I am convinced that none of this has escaped his notice, because it was not done in a corner. 27 King Agrippa, do you believe the prophets? I know you do.”

28 Then Agrippa said to Paul, “Do you think that in such a short time you can persuade me to be a Christian?”

29 Paul replied, “Short time or long—I pray to God that not only you but all who are listening to me today may become what I am, except for these chains.”

============

After attending the meeting, I realized I would now have to work seven days a week to keep up. I mean, the pressure of the job required constant thinking to resolve issues right away. Soon, all of my conversations were centered around work. Even at the dinner table, work spewed out of my mouth. I had no time for anything else.

  • One period of my life was spent worrying about money.
  • One period of my life was spent dealing with life’s pressures.
  • One period of my life was spent giving my all to those who demanded my time and giving none to those who needed it.

Festus interrupts Paul’s defense, saying he was “out of his mind.” Paul replied by appealing to King Agrippa by asking if he “believed.” King Agrippa questioned Paul by asking “Do you think that in such a short time you can persuade me to be a Christian?” Paul was willing to make time, short or long, to persuade the king and everyone around to believe in JESUS.

  • GOD wants me to make time for HIM.
  • GOD wants me to hope that everyone I come in contact with, believe in JESUS as our Savior.
  • GOD wants me to see more opportunities to talk about JESUS than I used to.

Time is precious. I mean it can be spent on doing something that makes me great amongst humans or I can point my life to JESUS who deserves to be called Great. I can never get time back once I’ve spent it.

GOD loves when I spend time learning about HIM and loves it more when I take what I’ve learned and teach someone else about HIM. Short time or long, I pray that every reader believe in JESUS in a saving way.

  • Are you too busy for GOD?
  • Do you stay busy so you can be noticed by humans?
  • Will you stop seeking to be noticed and start making time to speak about JESUS to many people today?

Demonstration

Demonstration

Acts 26: 19 “So then, King Agrippa, I was not disobedient to the vision from heaven. 20 First to those in Damascus, then to those in Jerusalem and in all Judea, and then to the Gentiles, I preached that they should repent and turn to God and demonstrate their repentance by their deeds. 21 That is why some Jews seized me in the temple courts and tried to kill me. 22 But God has helped me to this very day; so I stand here and testify to small and great alike. I am saying nothing beyond what the prophets and Moses said would happen— 23 that the Messiah would suffer and, as the first to rise from the dead, would bring the message of light to his own people and to the Gentiles.”

============

Excited to learn a new skill, I watched intently. The person seemed to tie all kinds of knots with ease. “Okay, you try” he said. I tried and messed up. He showed me and I could finally tie a few knots. I put my skills to use in fishing, hauling things on a vehicle, and sending presents.

  • There have been many people who have taught me life skills.
  • There have been many people who guided me in the right direction.
  • There have been many people who blessed me with good demonstrations.

Paul continues his explanation to king Agrippa. When JESUS blinded and healed Paul, he responded with obedience. Paul went everywhere preaching the gospel of JESUS. He taught people to demonstrate their repentance by their deeds.

  • GOD wants me to believe in JESUS as my Savior.
  • GOD wants me to translate that belief into action.
  • GOD wants me to demonstrate HIS love to others.

Demonstrating my repentance does not make me holier. In fact, the more holy I think I am, the more prideful my righteous acts become. GOD makes it simple. Give HIM the credit and I can have no ownership of the blessing HE bestows on another person through my deed. I am glad GOD demonstrated HIS love by forgiving me of all my sins.

  • What are you demonstrating?
  • What will people say about your actions today?
  • Will you demonstrate to others the love GOD shown you today?

Recruited

Recruited

Acts 26: 12 “On one of these journeys I was going to Damascus with the authority and commission of the chief priests. 13 About noon, King Agrippa, as I was on the road, I saw a light from heaven, brighter than the sun, blazing around me and my companions. 14 We all fell to the ground, and I heard a voice saying to me in Aramaic, ‘Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me? It is hard for you to kick against the goads.’

15 “Then I asked, ‘Who are you, Lord?’

“ ‘I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting,’ the Lord replied. 16 ‘Now get up and stand on your feet. I have appeared to you to appoint you as a servant and as a witness of what you have seen and will see of me. 17 I will rescue you from your own people and from the Gentiles. I am sending you to them 18 to open their eyes and turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan to God, so that they may receive forgiveness of sins and a place among those who are sanctified by faith in me.’

============

“We heard about you” were the strange words from the person on the phone. “How would you like to work for another company?” I wasn’t looking for a job at the time, but the recruiter presented the opportunity so well that I had to investigate.

  • There have been times when I have been recruited.
  • There have been times when I have been sought after.
  • There have been times when I was not looking for something, yet the something found me.

Paul continued explaining his background to King Agrippa. He mention how JESUS stopped him from going to Damascus to kill more people who truly followed GOD. JESUS told Paul that HE was “Appointing him as a servant.” JESUS sought after Paul.

  • GOD wants me to be HIS servant.
  • GOD pursued me when I was not looking for HIM.
  • GOD opened my eyes and turned me from darkness to light.

Belief that I live in darkness is hard to do when there is artificial light. I mean, when things are semi-good, it is hard to see that I need help. BUT GOD sees something different. HE sees the total darkness the world is in.

GOD recruits people to see JESUS as the Savior of the world. HE opens their eyes to the false light Satan provides. GOD wants all to be saved, but knows some will choose not to believe in JESUS. I gladly accept GOD’s recruitment to tell people about eternal salvation through JESUS.

  • Are you living so comfortably that you think you do not need JESUS?
  • Do you believe in the world’s philosophies more than the leading of the HOLY SPIRIT?
  • Will you allow GOD to recruit you into telling people about how JESUS died for your sins and is now alive, forgiving you for all eternity?

Adjust the Approach

Adjust the Approach

Acts 26: “I too was convinced that I ought to do all that was possible to oppose the name of Jesus of Nazareth. 10 And that is just what I did in Jerusalem. On the authority of the chief priests I put many of the Lord’s people in prison, and when they were put to death, I cast my vote against them. 11 Many a time I went from one synagogue to another to have them punished, and I tried to force them to blaspheme. I was so obsessed with persecuting them that I even hunted them down in foreign cities.

============

After learning a little about the Bible, I wanted to put the information to use. When told about a couple living together, my immediate response was “They shouldn’t be doing that” in a condemning tone. This was way after I had sex without being married in college. I figure that I could tell people what they were doing wrong, now that I learned something.

  • There were times when I thought my approach was right.
  • There were times when I read the Bible and brought judgment on people.
  • There were times when I overlooked my sins to point out the sins of others.

Paul confessed he had the wrong approach. He told King Agrippa that he was very zealous about learning the Jewish customs, so he became a Pharisee. He judged people for believing in JESUS as the Messiah, which seemed counter to what he learned. He persecuted many and applauded their death. BUT GOD had a different plan for Paul.

  • GOD wants me to see people as AHE sees them.
  • GOD wants me to give HIM my judgement in exchange for HIS peace.
  • GOD wants me to love one another as HE has loved us.

Seeing the world as “us” is difficult sometimes. I mean, when people dream of new kinds of hatred and lusts daily, who can teach GOD’s message of love. BUT GOD knows what is going on. HE simply needs me to be consistent in my love to those HE sends me to.

GOD sees my heart and knows how wicked it can be. HE cleans it out and places HIS SPIRIT in it. HE gives me purpose, namely to bring people to HIM. HE says “MY grace is sufficient” and I believe it. I am grateful HE cares for people like me.

  • Are you judging someone?
  • Do you easily see their flaws and overlook your own?
  • Will you allow GOD to deal with “that” person and ask HIM to adjust your approach to spreading the good news about JESUS, today?

Incredible Credit

Incredible Credit

Acts 26: “The Jewish people all know the way I have lived ever since I was a child, from the beginning of my life in my own country, and also in Jerusalem. They have known me for a long time and can testify, if they are willing, that I conformed to the strictest sect of our religion, living as a Pharisee. And now it is because of my hope in what God has promised our ancestors that I am on trial today. This is the promise our twelve tribes are hoping to see fulfilled as they earnestly serve God day and night. King Agrippa, it is because of this hope that these Jews are accusing me. Why should any of you consider it incredible that God raises the dead?

============

“Self-promote” was the suggestion to get ahead in corporate. I was always taught that hard work speaks for itself. I pondered how I was going to implement promoting myself and take credit more often.

As I was driving my family out of town, I hit a huge pool of water on the pavement. The car spun around and around then came to a stop. With trucks on the highway, it was incredible no one hit us. I could not take credit for this miracle of deliverance.

  • Incredible things have happened in my life.
  • I have seen Incredible things that humans would normally take credit for.
  • There have been some unexplained incredible things that happened to me that can only be explained one way.

Paul continues to explain his defense to King Agrippa. He said he was raised religious and became a Pharisee. This is the group of people that murdered JESUS for saying HE was and is GOD. Paul then asks “Why should any of you consider it incredible that GOD raises the dead?

  • GOD wants me to believe in HIS incredible power.
  • GOD wants me to believe in HIS SON, who was incredibly raised from the dead.
  • GOD wants me to believe in HIS incredible plan HE has for me.

Incredible is only natural for GOD. I mean, HIS power is not my power, HIS ways are not my ways, and HIS thoughts are not my thoughts. HIS power is incredible when I see and hear about HIS miracles. I am grateful GOD includes me in HIS incredible plan.

  • Are you trying to figure out GOD using human rationality?
  • Are you giving humans more credit than you should?
  • Will you look at what GOD is doing and see the incredible things HE performs daily?

Ask for Patience

Ask for Patience

Acts 26: Then Agrippa said to Paul, “You have permission to speak for yourself.”

So Paul motioned with his hand and began his defense: “King Agrippa, I consider myself fortunate to stand before you today as I make my defense against all the accusations of the Jews, and especially so because you are well acquainted with all the Jewish customs and controversies. Therefore, I beg you to listen to me patiently.

============

When the deadline approached, I was nowhere near complete. I had underestimated the school work because I had a job. I had to go to the professor and ask for an extension. It was a humbling experience.

  • There have been many times when I needed grace.
  • There have been many times when I needed mercy.
  • There have been many times when I needed someone to be patient with me.

Paul was speaking before king Agrippa and a huge crowd. He acknowledged the king’s knowledge of Jewish customs and controversies. Paul then asked for the king to have patience because he knew his story would be long.

  • GOD wants me to be humble enough to ask for patience.
  • GOD wants me to recognize when I need help.
  • GOD wants me to understand that I am at the mercy of others, so I need patience.

Asking for patience from someone is humbling. I mean, what if they say no? Asking for patience takes courage. When I need patience from someone, it usually means the person is in a position to enforce consequence on me or not help me when I need help.

GOD wants me to recognize the need for me to ask HIM to have patience with me. Even though HE is slow to anger, I still need to ask HIM to stay with me when I mess up. I am grateful HE will never leave me nor forsake me. GOD is patient with me.

  • Did you mess up with someone?
  • Do you need their mercy?
  • Will you humble yourself by confessing to GOD and ask for patience today?

Innocent

Innocent

Acts 25: 22 Then Agrippa said to Festus, “I would like to hear this man myself.”

He replied, “Tomorrow you will hear him.”

23 The next day Agrippa and Bernice came with great pomp and entered the audience room with the high-ranking military officers and the prominent men of the city. At the command of Festus, Paul was brought in. 24 Festus said: “King Agrippa, and all who are present with us, you see this man! The whole Jewish community has petitioned me about him in Jerusalem and here in Caesarea, shouting that he ought not to live any longer. 25 I found he had done nothing deserving of death, but because he made his appeal to the Emperor I decided to send him to Rome. 26 But I have nothing definite to write to His Majesty about him. Therefore I have brought him before all of you, and especially before you, King Agrippa, so that as a result of this investigation I may have something to write. 27 For I think it is unreasonable to send a prisoner on to Rome without specifying the charges against him.”

============

After having sex outside of marriage, I wondered if the sky would open up with fire from heaven to punish me. It didn’t, so I pursued this often. After stealing and justifying the theft by saying “I was pledging a fraternity while being broke.” Again, I wondered if I would be super punished. I wasn’t. But when I got hurt or thieves stole from me, I questioned GOD’s very existence.

  • There were times when I wanted my way and got it.
  • There were times when I did wrong and there seemed to be no consequence.
  • There were times when I deserved punishment but did not receive it.

King Agrippa and Bernice were well known. They came in town with a huge parade and celebration. They wanted to be amused by the situation Paul was in so they asked Festus to have him brought before them. Festus said, in so many words, he could not find anything Paul had done wrong. Yet Paul remained in jail.

  • JESUS did nothing wrong, yet HE died because of my sins.
  • JESUS was innocent, yet HE was blamed by me when things did not go my way.
  • JESUS never committed a single sin, yet HE was punished for all of my sins.

Guilty people do not want the guilt, so it is easier to not believe in deserving punishment than to accept responsibility. Not accepting responsibility will have eternal consequence. GOD allowed HIS SON to voluntarily die for the sins of humanity.

The only term HE put in place is to believe JESUS died and was raised from the dead for my salvation. When I believed this, I gained eternal live. I am grateful an innocent man cared enough about me to die just for me.

  • Do you feel you are innocent?
  • Are you trying not to look at your sins to avoid feeling guilty?
  • Will you take responsibility for your life and admit to GOD you need HIM for day to day problems as well as eternal salvation today?

Cause an Investigation

Cause an Investigation

Acts 25: 13 A few days later King Agrippa and Bernice arrived at Caesarea to pay their respects to Festus. 14 Since they were spending many days there, Festus discussed Paul’s case with the king. He said: “There is a man here whom Felix left as a prisoner. 15 When I went to Jerusalem, the chief priests and the elders of the Jews brought charges against him and asked that he be condemned.

16 “I told them that it is not the Roman custom to hand over anyone before they have faced their accusers and have had an opportunity to defend themselves against the charges. 17 When they came here with me, I did not delay the case, but convened the court the next day and ordered the man to be brought in. 18 When his accusers got up to speak, they did not charge him with any of the crimes I had expected. 19 Instead, they had some points of dispute with him about their own religion and about a dead man named Jesus who Paul claimed was alive. 20 I was at a loss how to investigate such matters; so I asked if he would be willing to go to Jerusalem and stand trial there on these charges. 21 But when Paul made his appeal to be held over for the Emperor’s decision, I ordered him held until I could send him to Caesar.”

============

“How did he get promoted?” I questioned. I mean, this guy was not leadership material. Now I was curious. I asked him what changed. He said I needed to attend a specific leadership class offered at the company. I took the class and was promoted five times afterwards.

  • When I want something, I look into it.
  • When I seek something, I ask questions.
  • When I desire something I investigate it.

Festus had company arrive. King Agrippa and Bernice came to pay their respects to him. He discussed this high profile case, telling them what Paul had done. He was shocked to learn what the dispute was about. The Jews claimed JESUS was dead and Paul told the truth about HIS resurrection. Festus did not know how to investigate the matter.

  • GOD wants me to stand firm for HIS truth.
  • GOD wants me to tell people about JESUS.
  • GOD wants me to live a life that causes people to investigate JESUS.

People seek something meaningful in their lives. GOD has shown me that HE is the most meaningful pursuit I could ever chase. No matter where I go, GOD wants me to be ready to explain that JESUS is the Savior and anyone who believes in HIM shall not perish but have everlasting life. I hope my life points people to JESUS.

  • Are you living your life for GOD?
  • Are you pointing people to HIM so they can investigate JESUS for themselves?
  • Will you let go of trying to control people to GOD and allow them to seek HIM for themselves today?

Gracious Roadblocks

Gracious Roadblocks

Acts 25: Three days after arriving in the province, Festus went up from Caesarea to Jerusalem, where the chief priests and the Jewish leaders appeared before him and presented the charges against Paul. They requested Festus, as a favor to them, to have Paul transferred to Jerusalem, for they were preparing an ambush to kill him along the way. Festus answered, “Paul is being held at Caesarea, and I myself am going there soon. Let some of your leaders come with me, and if the man has done anything wrong, they can press charges against him there.”

============

After the third round of interviews, I knew I had the job. I mean, this was a very large company who needed people and I was willing to work for them. I waited a week and did not hear from them. I called and they told me that the position was put on hold. A week later the company announced they would cut 100,000 jobs.

  • There were times when I pouted about what was going on.
  • There were times when I wished something would play out the way I wanted.
  • There were times when I wanted things to go my way.

The church leaders wanted to assassinate Paul, so they tried to convince Festus to have him moved back to Jerusalem. Festus told the church leaders to come to Caesarea instead. Little did everyone know, Paul was being protected.

  • GOD knows the plans HE has for me, plans to prosper me.
  • GOD knows when I am about to be ambushed, so HE protects me.
  • GOD knows the best place for me and provides protection for me that I cannot see or understand.

Looking back on many roadblocks, I can see how I was being protected versus restrained. I mean, GOD opened up new paths I would have never traveled. HE changed the course of my life and protected me from fulfilling my lustful desires that would have ended up in doom.

When I think of a way, GOD always has a better way. HE watches over me and for that, I am truly grateful.

  • Are you facing a roadblock?
  • Does it seem like deliverance is coming too slow?
  • Will you allow GOD to protect you and see the roadblock or delay as part of HIS plan for you?

Preach Imprisoned

Preach Imprisoned

Acts 24: 22 Then Felix, who was well acquainted with the Way, adjourned the proceedings. “When Lysias the commander comes,” he said, “I will decide your case.” 23 He ordered the centurion to keep Paul under guard but to give him some freedom and permit his friends to take care of his needs.

24 Several days later Felix came with his wife Drusilla, who was Jewish. He sent for Paul and listened to him as he spoke about faith in Christ Jesus. 25 As Paul talked about righteousness, self-control and the judgment to come, Felix was afraid and said, “That’s enough for now! You may leave. When I find it convenient, I will send for you.” 26 At the same time he was hoping that Paul would offer him a bribe, so he sent for him frequently and talked with him.

27 When two years had passed, Felix was succeeded by Porcius Festus, but because Felix wanted to grant a favor to the Jews, he left Paul in prison.

After surviving the slander, those who spoke negatively about me wanted to keep me around to get information from me. They would speak cordially in the meetings I attended, but reported something made up to people behind my back. They wanted to look like heroes, taking credit for my work. This felt like prison.

  • There were many times when I wanted to expose the liars.
  • There were many times when I wanted to tell people about those who were acting sneaky.
  • There were many times when I wanted people to know the truth about what was going on.

Felix knew about “the Way.” In other words, he had heard about the followers of JESUS. He gave Paul a lighter sentence, but Paul still had to remain in jail. Felix came with his Jewish wife to listen to Paul. Instead of letting Paul go, he kept him imprisoned and listened to the faith in CHRIST.

  • GOD wants me to not get weary in the place that feels like prison.
  • GOD wants me to remain vigilant in preaching HIS word, even to those who do wrong to me.
  • GOD wants me to speak about love and demonstrate it to those who could care less about me.

Rage is usually want I want to show when sneaky people are doing wrong. I mean, I get tired of people, who try to cover themselves, spinning their words to make me look bad and themselves look good. BUT GOD wants me to remain calm and let HIM handle the situation. GOD wants me to choose peace.

When I am peaceful, the opportunity to speak about JESUS is more likely to happen than when I am acting out in rage. I place, looking forward to speaking about JESUS while in prison, over being free and not talking about HIM. I am grateful JESUS is there with me every step.

  • Are you, or do you feel like you are, in prison?
  • Do you feel like someone is acting sneaky and making themselves look good at your expense?
  • Will you ask GOD to help you not grow weary and keep speaking about JESUS anyway?

Peace Broken

Peace Broken

Acts 24: 17 “After an absence of several years, I came to Jerusalem to bring my people gifts for the poor and to present offerings. 18 I was ceremonially clean when they found me in the temple courts doing this. There was no crowd with me, nor was I involved in any disturbance. 19 But there are some Jews from the province of Asia, who ought to be here before you and bring charges if they have anything against me. 20 Or these who are here should state what crime they found in me when I stood before the Sanhedrin— 21 unless it was this one thing I shouted as I stood in their presence: ‘It is concerning the resurrection of the dead that I am on trial before you today.’”

After completing the project with success, I felt a sense of accomplishment. Everything I did in my power worked well. But there were some who did not like the accomplishment. For whatever reason, they wanted to tarnish the accomplishment with innuendoes and conjectures. I felt blamed versus being able to celebrate.

  • There have been many times when people tried to rob me of peace.
  • There have been many times when people stirred up the crowd, trying to deflect showing their faults.
  • There have been many times when people were against me for doing something good.

Paul continues to explain why he was being blamed. He told the governor how he came into Jerusalem with peaceful actions to provide for the poor. He then explained how he knew the Law and observed them by being ceremonially clean. He asked that his accusers present evidence of wrong doing.

  • GOD want me to seek HIS peace daily.
  • GOD knows there will be people who will try to steal my peace.
  • GOD gives me peace that surpasses all understanding.

Peace is a weapon that cannot be stolen. I mean, when someone brings me disturbing news or acts devious towards me, peace is there as a weapon against my foe. When JESUS tells me to “have peace” HE enables me to use peace in the middle of the storm.

Peace is a choice. When I realize GOD is in control or the difficult situation, I can then give it over to HIM, knowing HE has the best outcome. HE is always looking for me to be doing something better for HIM. The situation is only the catalyst for the next great adventure HE has for me. I am grateful GOD protects me and gives me peace.

  • Is your peace broken by someone?
  • Has someone cause you to worry or doubt?
  • Will you use GOD’s peace as a weapon so you can be filled with HIS strength today?
