Everything Craved

Everything Craved

Revelation 5: 11 Again I looked, and I heard angels, thousands and millions of them! They stood around the throne, the four living creatures, and the elders, 12 and sang in a loud voice:

“The Lamb who was killed is worthy
    to receive power, wealth, wisdom, and strength,
    honor, glory, and praise!”
13 And I heard every creature in heaven, on earth, in the world below, and in the sea—all living beings in the universe—and they were singing:

“To him who sits on the throne and to the Lamb,
    be praise and honor, glory and might,
    forever and ever!”

14 The four living creatures answered, “Amen!” And the elders fell down and worshiped.

============

After struggling for years to pay my bills, it felt good to be able to pay for rent and a car payment. After a while, I was able to get a house and another new car because I got a “better” job. This wasn’t enough. I needed to be a decision maker so I climbed the corporate ladder in pursuit of a title.

  • I tied a personal cause to it to justify the enormous amount of hours spent seeking power.
  • I thought I needed a title to “help” other people.
  • I thought “I” was the answer to other people’s problems and I needed to be strong.

John, the disciple JESUS loved, is given another look at the throne area where GOD sat and JESUS was standing. Thousands of millions of powerful angels surrounded the throne, possibly protecting it, but also engaged in worship. Another son was sang, this time with a chorus. The song was about JESUS receiving power, wealth, wisdom, and strength, honor, glory, and praise!”

My Observations:

  • GOD is so powerful and I am so weak and I sometimes want the things JESUS deserves.
  • GOD has everything and since HE is made of pure love, is willing to share it with me.
  • JESUS did what no other could do and that is die for my sins and be raised from the dead.

All the things I want, JESUS has. I mean, I sometimes want power, wealth, wisdom, and strength, honor, glory, and praise!” I may even work a little longer and harder when I get even a couple of these items on the list. BUT JESUS is the only one who deserves these items.

JESUS did what no other being did, namely gave HIS life for HIS creation. HE is placed over everything. No power can come up against JESUS. The throne room scene by John shows the FATHER, the SON and the HOLY SPIRIT with all power, wealth, wisdom, and strength,  honor, glory, and praise!” My crave is to yield my desires to GOD.

Challenge

  • Did the writer present the presence of GOD as a weakling?
  • Have you ever thought GOD was a pushover because HE is showing you grace and mercy?
  • Will you contemplate your view of power, wealth, wisdom, and strength,  honor, glory, and praise so you can give it to JESUS and HE will share it with you?

Problem Solver

Problem Solver

1 John2: 22 Who, then, is the liar? It is those who say that Jesus is not the Messiah. Such people are the Enemy of Christ—they reject both the Father and the Son. 23 For those who reject the Son reject also the Father; those who accept the Son have the Father also.

============

Admiring the rich and powerful, I took to listening to his or her words. I picked out a characteristic that seemed to be common about all of them. They seemed to be problem solvers. The bigger the problem, the more people they needed to follow them.

  • I followed people I thought would solve big problems.
  • I quickly stopped following people who were not problem solvers.
  • I wanted to solve big problems.

John compares those who believe in JESUS as the Messiah to those who do not. He does this by asking a rhetorical question “Who, then, is the liar?” He provides the answer given to him by the HOLY SPIRIT, stating that those who say JESUS is not the Messiah are liars. He also mentions that people who reject JESUS as the Messiah reject GOD.

My Observations:

  • Rich and powerful people may claim to be problem solvers, BUT JESUS is the only one who can solve every problem.
  • Humans have tried to solve problems for centuries, BUT GOD laughs at any attempt to do what HE does.
  • Problems, persecution and pain are current situations for many, BUT JESUS is the only one who can heal all situations.

Attempting to blind humans into thinking there is no problem is what the Enemy of CHRIST wants. I mean, what better way to keep people from getting his or her problem solved, than to make up multiple lies about “higher powers” or random “universe” occurrences or “relative truth?” GOD sees through it all.

JESUS volunteered to solve the ultimate problem, namely eternal death. What does this have to do with current life? Everything! Each day we have a choice, follow the way of the world or follow CHRIST. Each decision can contain pain or promise, thoughtlessness or thankfulness, grudge or grace. I am glad JESUS is my problem solver.

Challenge

  • Why does the writer speak about “rejection?”
  • Have you ever placed your trust in humans who claim to have answers to big problems?
  • Will you place your trust in JESUS who is the Messiah, the Savior of the world, by accepting HIS love and become adopted into GOD’s true family today?

Nothing Held Back

Nothing Held Back

Ephesians 1: Let us give thanks to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! For in our union with Christ he has blessed us by giving us every spiritual blessing in the heavenly world. Even before the world was made, God had already chosen us to be his through our union with Christ, so that we would be holy and without fault before him.

============

Searching for some relaxation, I pursued life’s pleasures. I was now out of “the house” and on my own. Parties were fun, sex was fun and waking up in the middle of the afternoon was fun. But life had a way of returning. Sometimes life came back faster and harder than I wanted.

  • I had a misconception of heaven.
  • I thought I could find a bit of perfection here on Earth.
  • I wanted relief from life so I indulged in the world’s ideas of what a “blessed” life is.

Paul clears up a misconception of being able to find heaven on earth. He also gives everyone who believes in JESUS some relief that their sins are forgiven and we are declared “holy” and “without fault.”

My Observations

  • GOD wants me to focus on HIS tremendous blessings HE has given me.
  • GOD wants me to know JESUS and for JESUS to know me so I can receive spiritual blessings.
  • GOD wants me to understand that HE chose me to be with JESUS before HE made me.

Spiritual blessings are hard to imagine. I mean, I am so immersed in what the world dictates as “blessed.” Whether it is the lust for money, power or pleasure, life has a way of clouding my vision of what true blessings really are.

When I turn to the world, I tend to get mad at GOD for not “blessing” me enough. I look at bills, or people’s actions, or where I am in life and question GOD. BUT GOD took care of my doubts, fears and lusts. HE gave me a wonderful gift, namely JESUS and now I have every spiritual blessing in the heavenly world I can get. I thank GOD for the many blessings HE poured out on me.

Challenge

  • Where is the writer’s focus?
  • Is it possible we may have a misconception of what heaven is?
  • Will you give GOD the FATHER your thankfulness today for having chosen you and for giving you HIS all?

Legalese Corrected

John 12: 44 Then Jesus cried out and said, “He who believes in Me, believes not in Me but in Him who sent Me. 45 And he who sees Me sees Him who sent Me. 46 I have come as a light into the world, that whoever believes in Me should not abide in darkness. 47 And if anyone hears My words and does not believe, I do not judge him; for I did not come to judge the world but to save the world. 48 He who rejects Me, and does not receive My words, has that which judges him—the word that I have spoken will judge him in the last day. 49 For I have not spoken on My own authority; but the Father who sent Me gave Me a command, what I should say and what I should speak. 50 And I know that His command is everlasting life. Therefore, whatever I speak, just as the Father has told Me, so I speak.”

============

“You have to be dressed in your best clothes” I was told. Also, “You should not hang around with people who do ‘those’ things.”  “Give to the building fund.” And another thing… “Wait a minute” I thought to myself. It was too many rules just to go to church. I tried to follow them but became exhausted. I stopped going.

  • I remember trying to make GOD into a strict disciplinarian.
  • I remember looking at GOD as a strict warden, imprisoning me in rules I could not possibly follow.
  • I remember seeing church as a place that upheld a bunch of man-made rules that seemed powerless.

The people had just expressed their dissatisfaction with JESUS saying HE would die. ”The CHRIST cannot die” were their legal words, implying HE must have been a fake. JESUS explained why HE came. HE also explained that if they did not believe in HIM, the very words they use would speak against them.

  • JESUS wants me to learn about HIS difficulty with church leaders who place too many rules on people.
  • JESUS wants me to be a follower of HIS life.
  • JESUS wants me to teach the love of the FATHER, that is often overlooked.

Everlasting life is the FATHER’s desire. The only way to achieve this is to believe in JESUS. HE has given us a way back to HIM, but we must believe that we were lost. GOD wants me to understand that one prideful being decided he wanted to be GOD.

The plot against humanity led to introducing sin into it. This could enable every human to be taken away from GOD. BUT GOD decided to become a human and live a perfect life, tempted in every way. HE died without committing a sin and rose as the Most High. This is where I place my belief.

  • Are you following a lot of man-made rules?
  • Have you twisted what GOD says to humans in the Bible to control them into following you?
  • Will you release your hostages and give them to GOD by pointing them to JESUS and HIS compassion today?

Mindset

Luke 15: 17 “But when he came to himself, he said, ‘How many of my father’s hired servants have bread enough and to spare, and I perish with hunger! 18 I will arise and go to my father, and will say to him, “Father, I have sinned against heaven and before you, 19 and I am no longer worthy to be called your son. Make me like one of your hired servants.” ’

20 “And he arose and came to his father. But when he was still a great way off, his father saw him and had compassion, and ran and fell on his neck and kissed him. 21 And the son said to him, ‘Father, I have sinned against heaven and in your sight, and am no longer worthy to be called your son.’

22 “But the father said to his servants,  ‘Bring out the best robe and put it on him, and put a ring on his hand and sandals on his feet. 23 And bring the fatted calf here and kill it, and let us eat and be merry; 24 for this my son was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.’ And they began to be merry.

============

“Aw man, am I going to get punished this time!” I thought to myself. I mean I had promised GOD I would not do this particular sin anymore, yet there I was. My mind started racing as I tried to come up with things to say to GOD. “Maybe I’ll start out with, ‘Remember that time I served those people’?” was the practice in my mind.

  • There were many times when I thought about GOD as this ‘graceless’ being.
  • There were many times when I looked at GOD as being the ‘ultimate punisher.’
  • There were many times when I viewed GOD as an ‘unforgiving tyrant.’

JESUS continues with the illustration of the son who left his father to squander everything. The son was now homeless and worse off than before. When he reasoned that even the father’s servants had it better than him, he decided to practice begging, still having a very wrong view of who his father was.

  • GOD wants to have a real relationship with me so I can truly see who HE is.
  • GOD wants me to change my sinful view of HIM and stop blaming HIM for not doing enough for me.
  • GOD wants me to humbly seek HIM, not demand or command HIM to do stuff for me.

Compassion and love are GOD’s strongest qualities to those who love HIS SON. Yes, HE does allow consequence to happen as part of HIS love, but HE forgives me in spite of my actions. HE has already seen all of my sins, so my temporary goodness is always mired with gunk.

JESUS tries to explain the love of the FATHER who sees my heart a long way off. HE can tell when I have truly given my life to HIM rather than doing life “my” way. HIS compassion is great to me.

  • What is your view of GOD?
  • Do you think HE has left you?
  • Will you stop thinking of GOD negatively and ask GOD for compassion and love today?
  • Will you allow GOD to be GOD in your life by confessing how much you are trying to control HIM?

That’s what it’s all about

Luke 3: 21 When all the people were baptized, it came to pass that Jesus also was baptized; and while He prayed, the heaven was opened. 22 And the Holy Spirit descended in bodily form like a dove upon Him, and a voice came from heaven which said, “You are My beloved Son; in You I am well pleased.”

============

One single endorsement was all that was needed. JESUS prayed and the HEAVENLY FATHER opened up heaven and said “YOU are MY beloved SON; in YOU I AM well pleased.” This statement declared JESUS as being the SON of GOD.

  • JESUS became a human to save me.
  • JESUS lived HIS life sinless as an example to me.
  • JESUS was baptized to show me what I should do to others.

Life is all about JESUS. HE guides me and many others through HIS HOLY SPIRIT. HE loves like no other and pursues me daily. JESUS along with the HOLY SPIRIT and the FATHER are always there for me.

  • Have you pondered JESUS?
  • Do you recognize that JESUS is GOD?
  • Can you focus your attention on HIS power today?

Not Alone

Mark 9: 25 When Jesus saw that the people came running together, He rebuked the unclean spirit, saying to it: “Deaf and dumb spirit, I command you, come out of him and enter him no more!” 26 Then the spirit cried out, convulsed him greatly, and came out of him. And he became as one dead, so that many said, “He is dead.” 27 But Jesus took him by the hand and lifted him up, and he arose.

28 And when He had come into the house, His disciples asked Him privately, “Why could we not cast it out?”

29 So He said to them, “This kind can come out by nothing but prayer and fasting.”

============

Nighttime seemed darker as we rounded approached the campsite. When I got out of the van, I immediately stepped in some mud. I avoided mud at all costs up to that point. By the next day everything I owned had mud on it. The final straw was one of my lenses popping out in the mud. I used some less muddy water to clean it.

  • When times are tough I try to “clean” myself up.
  • When I go through trials I try to sin less so maybe the trial can go away faster.
  • When there are difficulties ahead of me I try to act better so maybe if I were being punished, then I can show I got the lesson.

Amazingly JESUS drives out an unclean spirit and makes an effort to teach the disciples how they can do the same. My focus is on the boy. From childhood he was attacked relentlessly. He did not ask to be attacked by demonic forces and could not speak or hear any words of comfort. He was helpless.

  • JESUS sees my situation and knows what I am going through.
  • The HOLY SPIRIT knows I cannot speak on my behalf so HE cries out for me.
  • The FATHER forgives my circumstance because of JESUS and the HOLY SPIRIT.

Trying to pretend I am clean is like taking more mud to form a pretend bar of soap to wash my body and declaring myself clean. In other words, no matter how much I try to follow the “rules” it won’t make me any cleaner or holier. I am helpless, like the boy.

BUT GOD does not leave me helpless. HE raises me out of the mud and cleans me up with everlasting water. HE restores my soul when the well of my heart is empty. Even when I cannot utter a word, the HOLY SPIRIT is there providing strength like none other. Yes JESUS loves me.

  • Are you in a difficult circumstance?
  • Do you feel exhausted because you thing the power has to come from you?
  • Can you understand that GOD loves you enormously and knows your needs and wants you to let go so HE can clean you from the inside?

We are Family

Matthew 12: 46 While Jesus was still talking to the crowd, his mother and brothers stood outside, wanting to speak to him. 47 Someone told him, “Your mother and brothers are standing outside, wanting to speak to you.”

48 He replied to him, “Who is my mother, and who are my brothers?” 49 Pointing to his disciples, he said, “Here are my mother and my brothers. 50 For whoever does the will of my Father in heaven is my brother and sister and mother.”

============

Outcast was how I felt when going to school. I mean other’s fit in and I stuck out like a sore thumb, or at least I felt that way. Ridiculed and unpopular, I trudged through my daily routines. Fortunately for me, I met a group who pulled me in as one of their own.

  • Regardless of what I look like, I am part of GOD’s glorious family.
  • No matter how I have sinned in the past, I am part of GOD’s wonderful family.
  • Irrespective of what I want to be, I am a person in GOD’s family.

Belonging is what I craved from the world but the requirements were too steep. I had to look like the trendiest people and act like people who acted like brats. I could not be quirky in my humor or just relax when I wanted to. BUT GOD says different.

  • GOD says to me “I made you just how you are.”
  • GOD says to me “I created you with a purpose that only you can fulfill.”
  • GOD says to me “I love you so now you belong in MY family.”

Being part of a holy family is a breath of fresh air. I can be valuable just by being me. GOD expects me to treat others the same. HE wants me to see their value as part of an amazing family that HE created and purposed. I belong.

  • Do you feel like an outcast?
  • Is your immediate family torn apart?
  • Can you give your life to GOD so you can be part of an amazing family who are still sinners yet forgiven?

How Great Thou Art!

2 Samuel 7: 22 “How great you are, Sovereign Lord! There is no one like you, and there is no God but you, as we have heard with our own ears.

============

Sin takes my thoughts off of how GREAT GOD really is. I mean I get so busy asking for forgiveness that I can’t bring myself to marvel at HIS greatness. Worry does the same. It robs my thoughts of the splendor of GOD. I can say the same for a busy life, troubles and even vacations.

Each distraction takes my mind off of GOD and places it on yet another prayer asking for something. GOD deserves something different.

  • HEAVENLY FATHER thank YOU for being GOD, I adore YOU!
  • JESUS thank YOU, thank YOU for volunteering to take my execution sentence, I am at a loss for words.
  • HOLY SPIRIT, thank YOU for dwelling in my sinful body, guiding me, comforting me, leading me and interceding for me.

GOD is truly amazing! There is none like HIM and no human can match wits with HIM. HE has forgiven me and raised me up in spite of my sin!
