Dirty Hands, Dirty Feet

Dirty Hands, Dirty Feet

Hebrews 10: 19 We have, then, my friends, complete freedom to go into the Most Holy Place by means of the death of Jesus. 20 He opened for us a new way, a living way, through the curtain—that is, through his own body. 21 We have a great priest in charge of the house of God. 22 So let us come near to God with a sincere heart and a sure faith, with hearts that have been purified from a guilty conscience and with bodies washed with clean water. 23 Let us hold on firmly to the hope we profess, because we can trust God to keep his promise. 24 Let us be concerned for one another, to help one another to show love and to do good. 25 Let us not give up the habit of meeting together, as some are doing. Instead, let us encourage one another all the more, since you see that the Day of the Lord is coming nearer.

After playing outside, a neighbor invited us into their house. It was a strange invitation, because we really had never been inside this particular home. “Take off your shoes” was the first statement. “Sit on the plastic covered furniture” was the next statement. The walls were white and so wase the carpet.

  • I felt like I was dirty.
  • I felt uneasy being around something clean while I was dirty.
  • I felt I could not touch anything or do anything because I would make the clean stuff dirty.

Paul, the assumed writer, tells everyone that, through JESUS, there is “complete freedom to go into the Most Holy Place.” This is the sanctuary of GOD and no sin is allowed. He implies that we have freedom to walk around because JESUS made us clean.

My Observations:

  • GOD is holy enough to clean me up to be in HIS presence.
  • JESUS died for my sins so I could become holy enough to into into the Most Holy Place.
  • Since I am in the Most Holy Place, GOD wants me to use it well.

Bam, “you are clean, now what?”” is the tone of the message. I mean, as dirty as I have been, JESUS cleaned me up. I don’t even know the areas I am dirty. HE sees my entire being and cleans areas of me that would not be allowed to enter into the Holy Place.

I can now come near to GOD with a purified heart, clean body, firm hope concern for others and a desire to meet with others. The HOLY SPIRIT provides the ability to do go and show love. I am glad GOD allows me to be cleaned of all unrighteousness.

Challenge

  • What is “The Most Holy Place” the writer speaks about?
  • Have you ever felt that you have sinned too much to be loved and forgiven by GOD?
  • Has someone made you feel less than clean?
  • Will you turn your life to JESUS so HE can truly cleanse you and give you access to GOD who has great things planned for you today?

House Materials

House Materials

Hebrews 3: Every house, of course, is built by someone—and God is the one who has built all things. Moses was faithful in God's house as a servant, and he spoke of the things that God would say in the future. But Christ is faithful as the Son in charge of God's house. We are his house if we keep up our courage and our confidence in what we hope for.

“I feel like giving up” are the words I have used many times when things got difficult. Something ultra scary or painful would arise and it would seem like there was no way out.

  • I would get worried.
  • I would get scared.
  • I would think of what could go wrong versus thinking about what has gone right.

Paul, the assumed writer, spoke about GOD being the builder of HIS house. JESUS is in charge of GOD’s house and remains faithful. HE builds the house out of those who follow HIM.

My Observations

  • When times get difficult, GOD gives me courage.
  • When times get painful, GOD gives me confidence that HE will take care of it.
  • When times get rough and I cannot see a way out of the trouble, GOD comes through with HIS grace.

Having courage and confidence is difficult. I mean, there are scary people, situations and diseases out there. BUT GOD wants me to place my trust in HIM. When I trust GOD to handle the situation, I can let go of it.

HE then does something quite miraculous. HE takes the thing I was trying to fix or build and HE fixes it or builds it HIS way. I am so glad HIS plan is far greater than anything I could ever think of and HE is the one who builds HIS house out of me and you.

Challenge

  • Why does the writer use the example of a house?
  • Have you ever been part of a community ad felt valued?
  • Have you ever gotten scared because you need help from others?
  • Will you place your trust in JESUS, who knows your situation, so HE can give you the courage and confidence to face today’s situation and renew your hope for HIS plan in your life?

I’m not only “in” the house I “am” the house!

Hebrews 3: 3 Jesus has been found worthy of greater honor than Moses, just as the builder of a house has greater honor than the house itself. 4 For every house is built by someone, but God is the builder of everything.

5 “Moses was faithful as a servant in all God’s house,” bearing witness to what would be spoken by God in the future. 6 But Christ is faithful as the Son over God’s house. And we are his house, if indeed we hold firmly to our confidence and the hope in which we glory.

============

When the phone rang I had a sense of confidence. It was the call I had been waiting for. The company was calling to schedule my third and final interview. I told my friend who referred me and he responded “you are in the house!”

Okay this was a long time ago, but I still remember the smile on his face. He meant I made it. I now belong to the group. I’m favored. “The house” has other meanings:

  • Church buildings are referred to as the “house” of GOD.
  • Church buildings are places where people gather to worship GOD.
  • Church buildings have special meaning but humans are more special.

From David to this current day we built places to worship GOD even though no human-made building can contain GOD. We get excited over this “house” and hold it sacred. BUT GOD wants us to look at another “house” that is more important.

  • When I believed in JESUS I became GOD’s house.
  • GOD decided to place HIS SPIRIT in me because I declared HIM LORD.
  • Now that I “hold firmly to this confidence and hope” I remain HIS house.

Building buildings and going to buildings is nice. The disciples tried to get JESUS to focus on the architecture of a building once, BUT JESUS told them HE was going to tear down the temple and build it up again in three days.

GOD’s “house” is very special. In fact it is so special that HE lives inside it and loves it daily. I am grateful GOD decided to live inside me, making me HIS “house.”

  • How are you treating GOD’s house?
  • Do you believe GOD HIMSELF is living inside of you?
  • Have you let JESUS do what HE wants to do with HIS house or are you still in control?
