Making a Way When it Seemed Impossible

Making a Way When it Seemed Impossible

Exodus 14: 21 Then Moses stretched out his hand over the sea; and the Lord caused the sea to go back by a strong east wind all that night, and made the sea into dry land, and the waters were divided. 22 So the children of Israel went into the midst of the sea on the dry ground, and the waters were a wall to them on their right hand and on their left. 23 And the Egyptians pursued and went after them into the midst of the sea, all Pharaoh’s horses, his chariots, and his horsemen.

After the preincarnate JESUS went behind them and the FATHER and HOLY SPIRIT did the same, Moses held up his hand with his rod and the Red Sea parted. GOD caused a wind to part the sea and the children of Israel walked on dry land.

My Observations:

  • GOD dried up the ground so the children of Israel and their carts and cattle could easily cross.
  • The Egyptians saw the Red Sea open and thought they could use GOD’s powerful miracle for their evil plan.
  • Moses was obedient to GOD by holding up his rod.

The parting of the Red Sea is significant because it shows us that GOD is in control of impossible situations. Whether it was a mountain or a deep sea, GOD can make a way where it seems impossible.

Moses holding up his hand was a sign of total alignment with GOD. It was not his power that parted the sea, BUT GOD’s power. GOD made it easy for the children of Israel. HE dried up the ocean floor overnight. I believe GOD can do the same for impossible situations today. HE can change something that seems impossible overnight. GOD’s power is unstoppable!

Challenge

  • Why does GOD remind Moses about what HE did with the Red Sea?
  • Are you facing an impossible situation?
  • Do you believe that GOD is in control of the impossible and HE can easily deliver you when you obey HIS plan?

Exiled and Evacuated

Exiled and Evacuated
Acts 18: After this, Paul left Athens and went to Corinth. There he met a Jew named Aquila, a native of Pontus, who had recently come from Italy with his wife Priscilla, because Claudius had ordered all Jews to leave Rome. Paul went to see them, and because he was a tentmaker as they were, he stayed and worked with them. Every Sabbath he reasoned in the synagogue, trying to persuade Jews and Greeks.

After the devastation of the hurricane, all that was left of some neighborhoods was a memory. Homes were washed away as the levies broke and floods ensued. Later I went to assist in the repair. It would take over a decade to provide shelter for those who lost their homes.

  • I have seen cities that have been torn up.
  • I have seen cities that have been devastated.
  • I have met people who lost everything they had, with no means to recover.

Paul met Aquila and Priscilla in Corinth. They were exiled because Claudius was tired of the squabbles the Jews were making over JESUS. Claudius exiled all the Jews, prominent and lesser known. They were now homeless. Paul went to help them.

  • GOD wants me to help the homeless.
  • GOD wants me to help repair the devastation.
  • GOD wants me to help those who have been exiled, left out and forgotten.

Any help is welcome when people lose everything. I mean even a cup of water feels great when no water is available. GOD sees my efforts when I assist people in need. While it can sometimes be overwhelming, GOD wants me to serve one person at a time with what I can contribute. Even if it is a smile, GOD can bless the recipient. I am glad to serve.

  • Are you willing to serve those who lost everything?
  • Are you shielded from seeing the homeless by giving to a gathering who gives to an organization who may give to the homeless?
  • Will you directly help those who are in need today?

Scary Clouds

Matthew 24: 26 “So if anyone tells you, ‘There he is, out in the wilderness,’ do not go out; or, ‘Here he is, in the inner rooms,’ do not believe it. 27 For as lightning that comes from the east is visible even in the west, so will be the coming of the Son of Man. 28 Wherever there is a carcass, there the vultures will gather.

29 “Immediately after the distress of those days
“‘the sun will be darkened,
    and the moon will not give its light;
the stars will fall from the sky,
and the heavenly bodies will be shaken.’

30 “Then will appear the sign of the Son of Man in heaven. And then all the peoples of the earth will mourn when they see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven, with power and great glory. 31 And he will send his angels with a loud trumpet call, and they will gather his elect from the four winds, from one end of the heavens to the other.

Preoccupied with worries I walked down the street. Dark clouds gathered in the distance and all I could do was wait on the bus. This time the clouds seemed a bit different.

They weren’t the normal shades of black and deep tones of grey; rather they were olive green and swirling. It still was not raining but I noticed paper was starting to blow around in a circular fashion. I saw a small funnel appear in the sky. I was no longer preoccupied, I was scared!

  • There have been storms that have scared me.
  • There have been clouds in the sky that made me nervous.
  • There have been threats of tornadoes, hurricanes and thunderstorms that have changed what I was thinking about.

Immediate danger changes my thinking. I mean when there is a threat of death; I am no longer worried about that class or that person or that bill. All I could do was tremble. JESUS describes HIS return as terrible. HIS sign in the sky followed by HIS appearance will not be a joy to many.

  • GOD wants me to see the storm of JESUS return coming from the distance.
  • GOD wants me to prepare people for HIS terrible storm.
  • GOD wants me to seek HIS face right now before the storm begins.

The reason JESUS warns us is one day it will be too late to turn to HIM. It will not be a day when those who believe in JESUS will stick out their tongues at those who chose to reject HIM. It will be a terrible day for everyone as friends and loved ones are torn from one another. All pettiness will be forgotten. JESUS wants me to focus people on HIM while we have a chance.

  • Are you preoccupied with worries?
  • Do you think you have forever to worry?
  • Can you start looking for others to point them to CHRIST?

First Steps to the Return

Ezra 2: 64 The whole company numbered 42,360, 65 besides their 7,337 male and female slaves; and they also had 200 male and female singers. 66 They had 736 horses, 245 mules,67 435 camels and 6,720 donkeys.

68 When they arrived at the house of the Lord in Jerusalem, some of the heads of the families gave freewill offerings toward the rebuilding of the house of God on its site.

============

After finishing my final paperwork I stood in my home office. No commute. No conference calls. No meetings. Silence. My career had shifted after the company decided to eliminate positions and I found myself wondering what to do. My previous pace was fast and pressured. I questioned the directions of the numerous people who gave me input.

They had great intentions in providing suggestions, but until I quieted down, I could not hear what I was supposed to be doing.

  • After my turmoil, I ponder what happens next.
  • After my trial, I question where I am supposed to go.
  • After my difficulty, I wonder “am I good enough?”

When I ask myself “Am I good enough” I am still looking at myself for all the answers. I then turn into judge, jury and executioner, quickly convicting myself of all my sins and missteps. GOD does want me to admit I am a sinner, BUT HE also wants me to move on, knowing HE has forgiven me. HE sometimes wants me to start over, dropping my misinterpretations of HIM along the way.

  • GOD wants me to look at HIM rather than looking at my accomplishments.
  • GOD wants me to look at HIM rather than looking at my might.
  • GOD wants me to look at HIM rather than looking at my resources.

Hundreds of thousands of GOD’s people had been taken into captivity and they returned with a pitiful few. Their resources were low yet their spirit was not broken. They gave and that was the first step to the return. On the journey back GOD said to me “be generous and you will be blessed.”

  • Are you just getting out of a huge trial?
  • Are you still pondering the aftermath of devastation?
  • Can you mourn for a shorter period of time and start to focus on GOD’s peace?
  • Will you drop your struggles and focus on rebuilding HIS temple within you, HIS way this time?
  • Will you ask GOD for the spirit of generosity today?
