Be a Special Treasure

Be a Special Treasure

Exodus 19: In the third month after the children of Israel had gone out of the land of Egypt, on the same day, they came to the Wilderness of Sinai. 2 For they had departed from Rephidim, had come to the Wilderness of Sinai, and camped in the wilderness. So Israel camped there before the mountain.

3 And Moses went up to God, and the Lord called to him from the mountain, saying, “Thus you shall say to the house of Jacob, and tell the children of Israel: 4 ‘You have seen what I did to the Egyptians, and how I bore you on eagles’ wings and brought you to Myself. 5 Now therefore, if you will indeed obey My voice and keep My covenant, then you shall be a special treasure to Me above all people; for all the earth is Mine. 6 And you shall be to Me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation.’ These are the words which you shall speak to the children of Israel.”

Three months into the journey, GOD led the people to Mount Sinai. Moses went up to speak with GOD who told him that if the people would obey HIM and keep HIS covenant, then they shall be a special treasure to HIM.

My Observations:

  • GOD brought the people out of Egypt without their power being used or their sin being addressed.
  • GOD provided a condition that reached beyond sin management.
  • GOD said everyone and everything is HIS and the children of Israel would be viewed as special to HIM.

Sometimes I forget that everything GOD made is HIS. Every person, every place and every thing is GOD’s. When I limit GOD to how well I can keep the commandments, I begin to think that GOD is a lousy ruler who sets impossible standards and blames me for not being able to keep them.

GOD seems to be pointing to JESUS. Keeping HIS covenant was the last thing on the children of Israel’s mind throughout the Bible. GOD had to intervene to make sure JESUS came as a human to save mankind. The children of Israel did in fact become a special treasure because JESUS was born and did complete HIS purpose of dying for our sins.

Challenge

  • Why does GOD remind Moses about whet HE said on the first trip up Mount Sinai?
  • Have you fallen into the trap of trying to manage sin, thinking you can manipulate GOD into getting your way?
  • Can you look beyond sin management for a minute to praise GOD for HIS leadership, despite your sins?

Arouse the Love

Arouse the Love

! Timothy 1: 3 I want you to stay in Ephesus, just as I urged you when I was on my way to Macedonia. Some people there are teaching false doctrines, and you must order them to stop. 4 Tell them to give up those legends and those long lists of ancestors, which only produce arguments; they do not serve God's plan, which is known by faith. 5 The purpose of this order is to arouse the love that comes from a pure heart, a clear conscience, and a genuine faith.

Angered by the driver darting in front of me, I yelled out in fury. “You can’t do that!” was my outburst. But words were not enough. I darted into the next lane, hoping to pass the reckless driver, but traffic did not allow me to “win the prize” of getting in front. I drove angrily the rest of the trip.

  • I was affected by something out of my control.
  • I was easily taken away from peace to rage.
  • I wanted to “teach” the driver a lesson, but this lesson had the wrong motive.

Paul warns Timothy about those who were practicing false teaching. He sent an order to stop their practice of arguing over lineage. He also told them to focus on faith in JESUS. Lastly, he presents Timothy with purpose.

My Observations

  • A pure heart can only be provided by GOD when HE dwells inside me.
  • A clear conscience can only be obtain when GOD forgives me.
  • A genuine faith can only be fostered when it is placed in JESUS.

Believing that I am better than someone else because of my ancestors is a lie. I mean, every human is a sinner, so no one is better than the next. JESUS deserves the praise and that should be my focus. HIS love should be aroused in my purpose.

HE gave me the HOLY SPIRIT who cleanse my heart when I soil it. HE helps me forgive myself when I fail. HE guides me to the truth which is JESUS, upon which I can place my faith. I am glad GOD’s love is aroused towards me and you.

Challenge

  • Why did the writer give the recipient this warning?
  • Have you ever wanted to feel superior to someone else?
  • Will you accept GOD’s purpose for your life and arouse HIS love today?

True Finances

True Finances
John 16: 12 “I still have many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now. 13 However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come. 14 He will glorify Me, for He will take of what is Mine and declare it to you. 15 All things that the Father has are Mine. Therefore I said that He will take of Mine and declare it to you.

Over time, the coins I took to the bank added up. I got excited over seeing the balance grow. I could now afford to buy anything I wanted. “Maybe I will buy some pants” I said to myself. I mean the ones I had were ragged and outgrown. “I deserve something better.”
  • Money made me excited.
  • Money made me think there was a problem when I did not have it.
  • Money made me want more of it so I could depend on its power.
JESUS had a lot more to say to HIS followers but ran out of time. HE spoke about the HOLY SPIRIT in a generous way. Somehow, the HOLY SPIRIT will give away everything that was entrusted to JESUS.
  • Truth is a currency the HOLY SPIRIT gives to me.
  • Glorifying JESUS is a currency the HOLY SPIRIT gives to me.
  • Salvation of those around me is a currency the HOLY SPIRIT gives to me.
Truth, praise and salvation are extremely important to the FATHER. But sometimes I fall into the trap, thinking human made finances are more important. I mean, GOD wants me to be more upset that one of my neighbor’s may be rejecting HIM, than worrying if their grass is not cut to the right length.
JESUS treasures humans and wants me to do the same. HE wants me to be as greedy as I want to be, as long as my greed is for human salvation. GOD’s currency is opposite that of human currency, which raises false hopes, false expectations and false security. GOD’s currency is truth and I believe in HIS true hope and security.
  • Are you as concerned about your neighbor’s salvation than if you can pay a bill this month?
  • Do you care about others more than the latest thing you want to spend money on?
  • Will you accept caring for what GOD gives you more than what you can get out of life?

Searching for Treasure

Luke 15: 8 “Or what woman, having ten silver coins, if she loses one coin, does not light a lamp, sweep the house, and search carefully until she finds it? 9 And when she has found it, she calls her friends and neighbors together, saying, ‘Rejoice with me, for I have found the piece which I lost!’ 10 Likewise, I say to you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents.”

============

“What is that?” I said to myself as I peered at the cluttered lawn on my way to school. It looked like money so I broke the rule of not stepping on anyone’s grass. To my excitement, I found a dollar! I quickly stuffed it in my pocket and smiled all the way to class. The next day I stared intently in the lawn and the day after and the weeks after that.

  • Three were times when money caught my attention.
  • There were times when I got a little bit of money and it made me search for more.
  • There were times when money made me look for it, seek it and desire to have more of it.

JESUS deepens HIS explanation of lost people by giving another parable. HE illustrates how a woman spent a great amount of time looking for lost money in her house. This analogy was probably used to make the people hear because most could relate to losing money. But money was not the true treasure.

  • GOD wants me to focus on HIM as the true treasure.
  • GOD wants me to seek HIS kingdom as the true treasure.
  • GOD wants me to bring HIS lost sheep and lost coins back to HIM as the true treasure.

People are clearly the true treasure GOD wants everyone to focus on. Those I hate, HE loves so somehow I need to quickly change my mind about what is important. HE values all lives and the more I can do the same the more treasure HE gives me. Prayers and preaching for more cash is sometimes okay, BUT GOD is elated when I ask for healing of my and other’s souls.

  • Are you down because you don’t have money?
  • Do you seek more things to make you happy?
  • Will you take the time to seek GOD’s true treasure which are HIS lost children today?
