Family Ties
Genesis 35: 8 Now Deborah,
Rebekah’s nurse, died, and she was buried below Bethel under the terebinth
tree. So the name of it was called Allon Bachuth.
============
Deborah, Rebekah’s nurse died. She was buried in Bethel and
the name of the place meant weeping tree.
My Observations:
- Rebekah’s death was not
recorded so she may be dead during the time of Jacob’s journey.
- Deborah may have
travelled with Jacob, because she was asl close to family as Jacob could
get.
- Jacob was close to
Rebekah and may not have gotten the chance to see her before she died.
This verse sticks out because it seems to come out of
nowhere. Deborah had not been mentioned until now. She was Rebekah’s nurse and
probably assisted in the birth of Jacob and Esau. She may have helped raise
Jacob and was probably close to him.
Rebekah’s death was not mentioned, but Deborah’s death was
listed. There must be some great significance to Deborah relating to Jacob. The
journey to Bethel may have been filled with Jacob asking questions to Deborah.
She was older and the trip was difficult. GOD gave Jacob time with Deborah.
Challenge
- Why does GOD mention
Deborah to Moses, seemingly, out of the blue?
- Have you faced the loss
of a loved one?
- Do you know your weeping
may endure for a night over someone who passes, but joy comes in the
morning?
